Super ubuntu for linux noobs
Some one from http://hacktolive.org/ has created/remastered the ubuntu 8.10 with additional features ;), he calls it as super ubuntu. It has all type of media playback by default and has most of the apps.
Here is the list of features:
* System and application updates: all updates released for Ubuntu, GIMP 2.6.3, OpenOffice.org 3, Firefox 3.0.4
* Better Multimedia Support: MPlayer and VLC, DVD-playback, MP3 support and other multimedia codecs
* Better Internet experience: aMSN, aMule, Adobe Flash player and Opera
* Support for portable applications/other installation methods: Autopackage, SFS Technology, Smart Package Manager, Wine and Zero Install

why is this version not according to GNU??
This version (even ubuntu) is not in the GNU’s free software distros list.To a software to confirm with GNU’s philosophy, it should contain all free software (not even a single library should be non-free)Here are the GNU recommended free software distro list:http://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.htmlAs most of the hardware vendors don’t release their drivers under gpl..those hardwares will not be supported in your distro
i had both ubuntu n windows xp in my lappy. i uninstalled ubuntu. it makes my lappy crash oft! i have the cd. so i can install any time. but y does ubuntu make my lappy crash???????
@SuganthiHow did you install ubuntu? There are two modes of installation , 1.install inside windows 2.separate install..If you have used separate install (i.e separate EXT3/EXT2 partition) and deleted the ubuntu partition later, the boot loader GRUB will be erased and you wont be able to boot windows..And if u have installed ubuntu inside windows , just removing ubuntu in add or remove programs of windows will uninstall ubuntu 😛 …If you need any help feel free to email me 🙂
i think u dint get me.. I installed ubuntu (Install inside windows). From the day i installed, it caused a lot of pbms to my windows. but its not serious. juz a two minute of time to recover. i uninstalled it frm add or remove pgms. My questn is y this happens?
Whats the problem you experienced in your existing windows installation after installin ubuntu ?
The system configuration will change. If I log into windows after logging out of my ubuntu, it wont boot up(not always. bt often). I had to change the system config(Pressing F2). the data control system wil be enabled. It must be changed to compatible for windows to work.
It isn't changin your system configuration …….Poor windows notices that you haven't booted into it last time when you loaded its bootloader and develops a false alarm that there is something wrong with your configuration……It isn't a ubuntu bug..thats windows
errrrrrr.. May be.. Kno wat? i too like linux. but bcoz of d probs i faced in installing ubuntu, i gave a pause to it. but u n ur blog influenced me to get into linux. 🙂
